We have updated our Standard document, Professional consultant's letter of appointment to include integrated building information modelling (BIM) provisions, meaning that users avoid many of the difficulties associated with incorporating a separate BIM protocol. (Free access.)

We have reviewed and updated our Standard document, Professional consultant's letter of appointment, to include integrated building information modelling (BIM) provisions.

The integrated provisions:

Allow parties to include BIM provisions within the terms and conditions of their appointment, rather than appending them as a schedule using a BIM protocol. This simplifies the appointment, makes it easier to understand and removes many potential difficulties that arise when using a BIM protocol (for example, the need to incorporate the BIM protocol or include a priority of documents clause).
Appear as optional clauses, so the professional appointment can still be used on a project that is not BIM-enabled.
Are accompanied by drafting notes explaining their use and any negotiating points.
